Default String suggestion for Flatiron Performer/Festival series

So, the new (to me) 1989 Performer A currently has EJ74. Good, good, basic string that works. At some point when these wear out will try the D'Addario flatwounds. And if that works, maybe my Thomastik set that I have sitting around.

What are other folks using? Have no complaints about what's on there now. Just want to know the experience of other folks as this is my first carved top Flatiron.

    Thanks.

There's a bundle of options. Between material, gauge, type and manufacturer the search for perfect could take years. We all have a favorite … mine is Curt Mangan phosphor bronze .11 - .40. Those Flatiron early Gibson period instruments are excellent. Good choice. I have a 1990 Gibson A5L which is a wonderful. I have always wanted an X braced Artist model from that period. < sigh... I can't have them all. I played an F5L for years before I gave it to my son. He loves it. Play on sir. R/
    I love hanging out with mandolin nerds . . . . . Thanks peeps ...

Curt Mangans. Good tone, settle in quickly, and last a long time. Lot's of option on gauges too.

I have used J74's, GHS A270's and DR MD11's on my Weber and Pava A5's. I liked them all. Try the DR MD11's some time, if you haven't tried them. Congrats on your new to you Flatiron!

Thanks so far. And please keep the ideas coming. Have got a lot of different strings here at home. Was swapping quite a bit on my Collings but have settled down to the LaBella's for now. And was doing some back and forth on the 1935 Gibson. But just decided that either J74 or Monels were good enough.

FWIW, have a vintage Black Diamond/Harmony string display box where I keep things. All 6 drawers are full. But that includes guitar (acoustic and electric) and even ukulele. Eventually have to thin some of those out as the electric doesn't get played and only have 1 uke and it hasn't been touched in years.

After a lot of years trying out different mandolin strings I tend to believe that, overall,on a variety of mandolins,
D'Addario Monel strings are hard to beat.

Sure, some mandos prefer something else but I'm talking F-hole mandolins.
