Attention Mandolin Jammers

We invite you to join us at our 2020 Spring String Gathering, to be held April 3-5, 2020, at the Clarion Hotel and Convention Center in Baraboo, WI. We will have many individual spaces big and small reserved (10 plus) for jams and workshops!! The hotel is working with us to provide a great venue for jamming!!!

Reservations--A special room nightly rate (Friday and Saturday night) of $74.00 is available if you indicate that you are part of the "String Gathering.” Call the hotel at 608-356-6422 to get this special rate when booking your your room. Breakfast (hot) is included with room during your stay.

There will be specific jams/workshops (including slow jams) for a variety of traditional acoustic music including old time, bluegrass, Irish, and Cajun.

The event runs from April 3, Friday, 6:00 pm, until April 5, Sunday, 11:00 am (checkout). Most of the jams will happen "spontaneously" as folks gather in the jam spaces (plenty of room) located on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th floors--they will be available all the time throughout the weekend for jams. We also hope that jams will pop up in the hotel rooms on the jams floors during the weekend.

Friday and Saturday Specific Workshops and Jams

Here is the Saturday jam line-up for the Spring 2020 String Gathering! We are doing something different this time with the beginner’s jams. Instead of holding one large facilitated jam, we will be holding multiple concurrent sessions for old-time and bluegrass. We have one large conference room, the smaller Ringling room, and other locations in the hotel. If you learn best in smaller groups or larger groups, there will be a jam for you to get started.

9:30-10:00 am: Jamming 101 – Introduction to jamming etiquette at Old Time, Bluegrass, Irish, and Cajun jam sessions led by the SG organizers (large conference room).

10:00-12:00 pm: Facilitated Old Time beginner's jams
12:00-2:00 pm: Facilitated Bluegrass beginner's jams
2:00-4:00 pm: Cajun jam
4:00-6:00 pm Irish Session

Participants are of course highly encouraged to start their own jams for whatever music they want to explore. These larger jams are good for folks learning a new style, or those that came out just for a specific style of music. Please note that this schedule is subject to change. We have facilitators lined up for each (also subject to change!). Can't find a style you feel like playing? Put up a sign and start your own jam! There will be musicians happy to join you.

We are planning to hold the Fall String Gathering in Baraboo at the Clarion Hotel in early November 2020 as we have in past years.

Andy, I removed it from the Workshops/Camps page. Pretty sure I'm going to be doing a lot of this going forward. Already have on that resource.
