Has anyone seen the new Eastman El Rey electric mandolin? It looks interesting from the pictures and videos.
What do you all think about it?

Never heard of it. Just Googled it. My humble:
- Nice looking.
- Why did they name it after Tito Puente?
I love mine. Great feel and playability, excellent tone, and the custom Lollar pickup is amazing.
Axes: Eastman MD-515 & El Rey; Eastwood S Mandola
Amps: Fishman Loudbox 100; Rivera Clubster Royale Recording Head & R212 cab; Laney Cub 10
my local music store has plenty of Eastman guitars and mandolins but have no plans to get el Rey.Tito was a neighbor and he was the King.
I played a friend's Eastman El Rey last week.
I loved it! The neck feels just like the Eastman acoustic mandolins. Super comfortable. I like that it has a floating bridge like an acoustic. Sounds great and easy to play
Maybe they named it after Robert Rodriquez' cable network?

I love mine and believe that Dennis at The Mandolin Store still has some in stock.
The mandolin is named after the El Rey electric guitar Eastman has been selling for quite a while; the mandolin is a small version of that body shape.
Apparently you can use it to pretend you play electric guitar
Exactly -- even weirder when you think 99.9% of mandolin players start out on guitar in the first place..............hmmm
but, sure, a really cool toy!
I should add all the "playing" takes place in the first 47 seconds of the video. That's 9 minutes of my life I'll never get back.......
Yeah I wish they had more playing and less talking in that video.

I was saving up for a Pono octave, but after learning about this iam not so sure. It looks real cool, as we used to say.
