    Default I'll See You In My Dreams - Django transcribed for mandolin

    Hey Friends, long time no see, hope you all are well. Transcribed this last year for Steve Smith's mando camp, made a youtube video after and have had a few requests for the transcription. Thought I'd post it here for longevity. Really great Django solo, and lays out fairly well on the mandolin. Enjoy!

    Thank you Jordan! Spent a few hours on your transcription last night - I will be able to play the "head" up to speed soon, the rest may follow. Django's solos are built around guitarist shapes & sometimes don't translate as easily into mandolinese, but they are awfully fun to play.

    Nice; great tune! Could you add a second video showing how you play the chord changes?

    I know them on the guitar, but have been slacking coming up with a smooth, efficient way to play them on the mandolin. So much of Django's chordal work guitar progressions were very subtle one note changes that make a big difference in the overall feel. Less is always more with Django...

    Jim: There are tons of options for playing rhythm to this song. We play this in our Django Djam & depending on the circle size, I'm playing rhythm >90% of the choruses. My humble take: Use a couple of different options for chording "Jethro" style on the lower strings. Don't blame me if some of the F6 or Bbmaj7 chords look like Dmin and that there are rootless chords - the guitars or bass provide the context. I do like the sound of a rootless minor 6 - Bbmin6 658x - sounds gypsy to me!

    I'll illustrate a "higher register" grouping of chords for the A section and a "lower register" in the B section. As you know, you can "slur" into chords for effect, depending on the setting. Mix & match. Hope this gives you some ideas & I'm always open to any other suggestions!

    A section: Bb6: 758x can make it a Bb9 to break up monotony (778x) --> Bbmin6 658X --> F6 can be 535X or 778X --> C+(E+) 567x--> F 578x --> D7 545x --> G7 435x --> C7 323x --> F7 213x--> 878x either voicing sets up the B section for the Bb6

    B section: Bb6 355x or just Bb 335x --> Bbmin 334x or Bbmin6 354x --> F 233x --> E+(C+) 123x --> F6 203x or F 223x --> D7b9 to D7 546x 545x --> A7 650x --> Dmin 535x or 235x --> Bb 335x --> Bbdim 324x --> C7 323x then F to F7 either down 233x 203x 213x or up 578x 778x 878x

    Thank you Jordan for the transcribed solo and John for the rhythm chords. Quite useful indeed and now the work is cut out for several of us.

    Hey, thanks John! Odd that you would post the exact chords that I would use(actually way better than I would come up.with). Yeah, we all get closer to Jethro by studying Django, hope everyone gets some good info out of this thread.
