Is your weed whacker gas or electric? Are you playing .065, .080, or .095 string gauge!

]I've been totally satisfied since I switched to Elixir Nano-Web mediums. They sound good and seem to last longer than any other strings I have tried.

Don Grieser how do we get Curt Mangan's attention for a slightly heavy mandola set?

I recently bought an Eastman 305 as a travel mando. I was somewhat underwhelmed by the tone, and figured the strings were shot given the time it languished in the store. I had a set of d’Addario Nickel steel mediums I bought for some reason. Wow! What a difference. Highly recommend for the 305. Don’t think I’d use them on my SA, but for the 305 they’re good. Just my opinion-YMMV.
    Thanks

Several mandolins of varying quality-any one of which deserves a better player than I am.......

1st try w/D'A monels (usu EJ74s). They give a little more crispness and maybe wee bit less woof on the KM900. The former surprised me.

I use Martin .010 -.034 on my Martin mandolin but am interested in trying something different. I have thought of using Thomastik, Dogal Calace and Elixir. I want to find strings that work well on this mandolin for Italian Folk music (and its tremolo), and also strings that are long lasting. I suspect the Thomastik and Dogal Calace would be a big change from the Martin strings. Any advice?

Am really enjoying a set of GHS A 270s on my Stiver after using J75s. Strong G and D courses with smooth, quiet slides. A has power. The only weakness is that the E seems a bit light. Think I'll go up a gauge on that one. Honestly, though, it all depends on the individual mandolin. That's one of the things I love about this instrument; they're all so different.

I'm devoted to the Siminoffs. My allegiance was formerly to J74s.

I just put Curt Mangan "fusion matched" bronze strings on my mandola and mandocello and they are the best sounding strings I've ever used. For my F5 mandolin its been DR Rare for the past couple changes and they are better than anything else I've used.

I really like the Martin monel strings on my archtop guitar and F4 mandolin, but just recently switched each over to Mangan monels, and like them at least as well as Martin's.

Probably won't be going back to D'addarrio for any of the above after trying DR and Mangan.

I just rummaged in my drawer and somehow pieced together a full set of J74s for a mandolin that had been wearing the same set for about 5 years. They sound so much better. Don't be like me, people: change your strings the same way you vote - early and often.

    '56 F-12 f hole gets D'A EFT-74 Flat Tops, the '16 F-4 oval hole gets D'A EFW-74 Flat Wound and 2002 Duff H-5 gets D' EFT-76s when I can find them, otherwise D'A EF-76s. Guitars?? I'll have to check... Guess I'm a D'Addario kind of guy.

EJ-74 on my MT and A-50. Lights on the Kalamazoo. Those switch between GHS and Mangan monel. The A Jr. has Silk and Steel and not sure I like it. Might get a set of monel.
