Boston/Cambridge Music Stores?

I'll soon be in Boston for a work-related trip, and I'm thinking at some point I'll try to find the time to stop by a music store. I'll be in the Back Bay area, so Cambridge and central Boston are easily accessible. What shop should I not miss when in Boston?

If you want to see mandolins, I don't think there's anything much in Boston or Cambridge anymore. The Music Emporium, somewhat west of Cambridge in Lexington is fabulous but I wouldn't call it easily accessible.

If you don't have a car in Boston, there's apparently a MBTA #62 bus from the Alewife subway station (Red Line subway northern terminus) that goes down the part of Mass Ave where the Music Emporium's located.

Been a while since I took the "T" north of Harvard Square, so I'm going by what they've posted on-line. Give the store a call and check it out before trying this route.

Great store, and Stu Cohen (if he's there) has worlds of expertise. Sew your credit card inside your pocket, if you're temptation-susceptible.

Uber is probably faster than waiting for public transport. If you are pressed for time it’s your best bet.

If you're taking the bus from Harvard Square (on the Red Line) to Music Emporium, you'll go past Wood & Strings in Arlington Center. Those who know Boston/Cambridge might remember Sandy's Music -- long gone now, but Wood & Strings reminds me of it.

As bad as Greater Boston traffic is, the public transportation system has become an expensive, unpredictable nightmare. I would avoid it, especially if you're pressed for time. The Music Emporium won't disappoint though. If you like Chinese food, Taipei Gourmet next door to the little strip mall where the Emporium is, is excellent.
