    Default 1902 or 1905

    just wondering what kind of finish gibson would have used on this year instrument? Also the ss# is4716,am I in the ballpark for the year of this mandolin? Thanks for any feedback. I am brand new to the forum and looking forward to learning about these older mando's

    Early Gibsons were finished with varnish. They probably used more than one type.
    Spann's Guide to Gibson places 4716 in the year 1905, which is a very early Gibson indeed.
