    Default Northeastern Bluegrass festival

    Hi all,

This summer I want to attend my first Bluegrass festival. I had search the internet to make a list of possible festival that would be at a reasonnable driving distance. I live in Montreal, Canada and I'm searching for festival that would be at a maximum of 10 hours drive from here. Right now, I found Greyfox(NY), Del Fest(MD) and Green Mountain(VT). Can you point me others festivals in Northeastern that would fit? I plan to try to attend two festival this summer (one in early summer and one at the end), so I'm trying to make a list of possibility before choosing. Also, any information that you have regarding the festivals I list or others festivals that you suggest would be appreciate.

    Thanks,
    Charlie

Gettysburg is a little further east of Del Fest. They have one in May and one in August.

The May festival (5/14 - 5/17) is the week before Del Fest (5/21 - 5/24).

Pickin' In the Pasture -- Aug. 20-23 -- is a decent midsize festival in Lodi NY, between two of the Finger Lakes, Seneca and Cayuga. Those who've attended from Rochester speak highly of it.

Thanks for your reply. Also, what do you do with your mandolin when your going to see shows? Do you lock it in your car or you just keep it with you everywhere you go during the festival?

    Jenny Brook in Vermont!

Also google Pemi Blugrass in NH, seems to only have a FB presence but it’s a good one.

Both are closer to Montreal than anything mentioned so far. The campground picking is right there with the all star stage shows.

If I'm likely to run into a jam going to or from the stage area, I have instrument(s) with me, generally more than just a mandolin (also guitar, Dobro, banjo, whatever I can carry in gig bags.

Instruments I'm not taking get locked in the vehicle, and since it's a Honda Element with no out-of-sight trunk space and windows that let in sunlight, the cases are covered by a quilt to insulate from radiant heat and the curious eyes of passers-by.

So far so good; no thefts, no heat damage. Lotsa fun.
