(No I can't seem to spell years

    1. Is there an app that makes it easier to participate on the Cafe, or do you just bookmark it in Safari?

    2. What is the best tuning app?

    3. What is the best chord finder app?

    4. What is the best audio recording app (capture, not necessarily editing)?

    5. Are there other mando-related apps that you would recommend?

For a chord finder, I have the Mandolin Companion from Infinaut. It gives you options for chords all the way up the neck. Also has scales and a metronome among other features.
For a tuner app, I like the Cleartune. Super simple and accurate.

    4. I use Voice Recorder Pro, recommended to me by singers.
    5. MetroTimer, have to have a metronome.

I use Music Memos for audio capture and have been quite happy with it. The other app I like a lot is "Loop2Learn", which let's you slow down and loop segments of Youtube videos - I know there's a function on YouTube to slow videos down but Loop2Learn let's you do it more incrementally than Youtube.

I really like AudioStretch for slowing down videos. I take videos of my teacher playing chord progressions or demonstrating some technique or a nice lead idea, and then slow down/loop the video to get all the details right. Loopy HD is simply the best looping app out there. Really great interface once you get the hang of it. Lots of great tutorials and a vibrant user forum. There are a bajillion recording apps out there. I’ve bought quite a few. Ferrite is my favorite. Pricey as apps go for the full pro version, but extremely well supported and rock solid. I have recorded critical live performances using Ferrite and never once worried about stability or blowing the gig. I recently discovered two great chord finders. Unfortunately they are both guitar specific: Chord! and Oolimo. GuitarToolkit is more flexible, includes support for mando, bass and uke, and includes a decent tuner, metronome, and lets you create lead sheets. Still one of the best values in the App Store for these functions.

Welcome to the future...ha! Just kidding, here’s what I use.

No cafe app, used to be/maybe still out there but not maintained. There is a mobile view of the cafe but it’s not great, I switch to desktop on my old iPhone SE which has a really small screen - 4” I think.

I got guitar toolkit years ago, it has a tuner, chord and scale finder and a host of other features for multiple instruments, it wasn’t free but well worth it, it will show chords and all the inversions of say Cm but it also has a function where I can indicate the notes on the strings and it will tell me the chord name. Really handy especially for mando because sometimes the chords can be 2 different names...right Don Stiernberg...?...

For audio recording I just use the voice memo feature, I have a tascam recorder for shows, camps, etc.

I also have MetroTimer for metronome use and iRealPro for play along. Amazing slow downer is ummm...amazing...and not sure if forScore works on the iPhone since my phone is so small in size and memory I just use those last two on my iPad.

For cords I also use mandolin companion from I finally. Tuning I use both the Peterson iStroboSoft and Mandolin Toolkit. For recording I use BandLab.

Upgrading from an iPhone 6 to a iPhone 11 Pro was quite a shock for me -- in a good way. Battery life is far better, everything is faster, etc.

I use InsTuner, a general chromatic tuner app. It's accurate and works for any instrument. I practice singing pitches with it to improve my vocal intonation too.

MusicMemos is fine for simple recording.

I use the Filmic Pro camera app. About 5 euros/dollars.
About two years ago they had an option where the app could access raw data from the camera, not sure how that works, but the picture quality was 3000+, incredible. No sound though, and the iphone I had (iphone4 or 6?) used to get REALLY hot! They stopped it after a while for obvious reasons but it’s a great app if you want more control over image and sound.
Eg. You can set aperture so lighting is stable, doesn’t autofocus all the time and a specific shutter speed. Also if the ambient light is good the result can be cinematic. And you can set it so that the image isn’t stretched when you pan fast.

Thanks, but NO pain whatsoever. My flip phone is actually powered OFF about 90% of the time.

It's a machine that helps me if I need AAA or if I need friends to help with something I can't manage on my own.

I'ts NOT a machine that says, "I've got you by the throat and you don't have the guts to ignore me!"

I just learned you can turn the ringer ‘on’ on a phone, not that I do that of course.
