Default John Reischman (with Eli West) at Green Mountain Bluegrass & Root

Wanted to share this little gem filmed with John Reischman and Eli West at this past August's GMBR in Manchester, Vermont.

John's playing seems to effortless and smooth. Getting to be up close while he was pickin' was a truly magical experience (both because of his prowess as a player, and the history of that Loar)...and he is a heck of a sweet and kind guy to boot! Plus that Eli West is no slouch on the guitar!

    Enjoy.

Wow. John R. Is pretty good. But he's holding the pick wrong!

Really enjoyed that tune. What's the name of it?

Thanks for posting that. Gotta hear that some more.

That tune is called, "Nesser." John's Loar has a special sound, he says it doesn't sound like other Loars he's played. Also, his style of picking lends itself to a softer tone. I've heard him play up close, with and without a microphone, and with other players, and he pulls a really mellow tone compared to other players. He holds the pick differently, a reverse thumb because of his thumb anatomy. The Fretboard Journal and You Tube have videos of John explaining this style and the history of how he got his Loar; interesting stuff for mando geeks like us!

Thanks for the kind words...there's plenty more from GMBR 2019. All in all, I filmed videos with a similar vibe with about 20 acts. Can check out the first round here:

...Another round of them should be releasing in the not so distant future.
