I make up my own sets: 10 1/2-14-24-40. Sometimes I use nickel for the wound strings, sometimes bronze.

I've always used D'Addario J74 on F4s. The tops are thick and you need a bit of tension to get it to deliver.

EJ74's, Flat Tops, or Thomastik Mittels, depending on what you're into. It is true that the truss rod instruments have more gumption, on the average, and you can goose that a bit with 80/20 bronze or take advantage of the extra bite with Thomastiks.

Curt Mangan PB Bluegrass series or CM Monel . Both great , to my ears !
My two favorite pastimes are drinking wine and playing the mandolin but most of my friends would rather hear me drink wine! Adapted from quote by Mark Twain------supposedly !
