Finally playing again

So four weeks after rotator cuff surgery I was finally freed from the massive harness I've been wearing and allowed to wear a normal sling outside, and no sling at all in the house. That plus weeks of pain before surgery meant I haven't really played in two or three months.

First thing I did when I got home was pull the sling off and get my Eastman OM off the wall. Was able to play (gently) for a good half-hour with no pain.

Don't tell my wife, but yeah, it felt almost that good

Its always great to play after an illness! I was laid up for years being very sick but at least I can still remember a few chords to beat on!

Awesome - glad you are back in the saddle - not the same thing but I remember when the tip of my left ringer finger had to be stitched up, couldn't play for about 6 weeks or so, I put nylon strings on an old mandolin just to see if I could get the fingers working again, but when I could finally use it without wincing, man was I glad to be back pickin'!

Yeowch. I'm glad it was my shoulder and not a hand or wrist. Even though I've been sitting around the past month feeling my calluses gradually soften, I was glad to discover I still have enough left to play without being raw. Just have to build them back up. Gonna try to get in a little each day even if it's just a few minutes.

Interestingly, there were a couple of licks I was struggling with before surgery that seemed to flow more smoothly. Maybe my brain has had time for some of the muscle memory to gel.
