Default Funky logo placement on F4 headstock.

eBay is selling a postcard with this image of mandolinist Violet Pearl and her teens-ish F4.

What puzzles me is the headstock; "The Gibson" is as far away from the edge as I've ever seen it, and sitting practically on top of the double flowerpot instead. Ever see one like that before?

That does look like it’s pretty far “South” but, we all know that oddities were common enough to not even think of them as odd, right?

It was the guy's first day in the inlay department and they hated to waste the pearl. I've never seen one that far south either but I'm sure Gibson actually did it

A famous Gibson slogan: "Only a Gibson is good enough."
A response in a trade magazine ad by a competitor: "When good enough is not good enough."
    A quip by a well-known professional: "If it's a Gibson, it'll have to do."

Charles Johnson has one really close to this in his inventory. Ad just placed for it. Can't say it's the same one, but...

Ran across this the other day on eBay. Looks like Joey Bishop is playing an F-4 with really low inlay. Since I don't remember the talk show, am wondering if he was practicing in the dressing room when this was taken? Considering the photo was mid-late 1960's, that's a pretty clean looking mandolin.

Another 1922 F4 -Cremona sunburst and just before the truss rod was standard. May be fairly common.

Maybe Gibson was planning ahead for clip-on tuners.

possible bargaining chip to get a lower price? "Ah, say here, something doesn't look quite right with the logo, yep, probably one of those knockoffs from overseas, you probably don't even want it in your store.....I could take it off yer hands for .......fiddy bucks or so"

The lady's F4 has Handel tuners and no trussrod cover.
