    Default Adam Steffey

I see Volume 5 has a new mandolin player, meaning Adam Steffey is no longer with the group. No announcement as to where he’s gone and his website has disappeared.

Curious fan seeks answers. Anybody know about this change? I was looking forward to seeing him this festival season. A great player and a very nice guy.

Adam has taken breaks before. It is a demanding business and he has young children. I suspect we will see him again at some point - or at least I hope we will. I don't know him well but I believe he is one of the nicest people on the planet. I hope that whatever path he chooses finds him happy, healthy and fulfilled. I wish him all the best.

His presence on their last CD was minimal. He played mandolin and it was good but nothing jumped out to my ears. Life is what happens to you when you are making other plans.

I heard a radio interview with him last year where he said he was moving into other directions, even doing some electronic sampling kind of stuff.

    So this was last January:

I can find no word on what changed since then, and maybe not much changed.

Volume 5's Facebook page announced that there was a change in the lineup, with Aaron Ramsey taking over the mandolin spot. So, something has changed.

A little bit of Google searching yielded this :https://www.wncw.org/post/award-winn...ndation-jan-18

Seems like Adam has found a new band: The band includes the talents of Glen Harrell, Patton Wages, Jacob Burleson, Jeff Partin and newest member, Adam Steffey, a five time GRAMMY Award-winning musician.

This article was from December 2019.

So, between 12/11/2019 and 1/10/2020, Steffey left Volume 5 and currently is nowhere to be seen, ie, no Facebook or website. Just seems a little unusual.

I’ve always been a fan so I hope all is well for him.

The V5 album "For Those Who Care To Listen" was produced by the bandleader, Glen Harrell. The projects by Highland Travelers and The Boxcars were for the most part Adam's babies. It makes a difference whether you're the bandleader/producer or the hired mandoslinger. The new V5 project had the same vibe as their previous recordings.

I heard from Adam right before Thanksgiving. He's ok. I'm guessing he just didn't want a bunch of fanfare and speculation from Bluegrass Today. I'm just guessing. We did not discuss it.

Someone posted here last year that Adam was retiring from music work and moving in a different direction, maybe search for that thread? Or maybe HappyPickin has a better scoop on this, since he is in communication with Adam. I remember reading that thread last year.

Had to jog my memory. This was actually posted November 2018: https://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/t...t=Adam+Steffey

Then in January of this year, I posted about the article David mentioned: https://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/t...t=Adam+Steffey

Adam is working through things day by day I'm sure.
