Congratulations Gelsenbury!
And many thanks for all the work that, over the years, you’ve put into Song a Week Social group.
Congrats on a decade of mandolin!
My suggestion is to take a mandolin themed vacation.
and to clarify: "new" mandolin really means "another" mandolin

Congrats on your mandolin journey and celebrate this milestone! I also just passed the 10 year mark and just celebrated 5 years with my mandolin. It took me 5 years to wear the frets down, so I took it to Michael Heiden and had him refret it and set up the mandolin. It kinda just happened naturally and I’m so pleased that I started this journey and found the mandolin of my dreams.
I don’t think I’ll be celebrating for a while as I had EVO gold frets installed

Well done Gelsenbury! I started playing mandolin in earnest 10 years ago as well, though I don't calculate it as 10 years of actual playing because I had a hiatus from 2012-2016, so about 4 years away, meaning I'm really only playing for 6 years.

I really like that idea. It may be difficult to organise a whole mandolin-themed vacation, and my wife vetoed a weekend mandolin workshop because I'm needed at home. But visiting a mandolin maker's workshop, or an excursion along those lines ... that would be really nice.
Another thread has made me think of an online workshop at Peghead Nation. That might also be a nice anniversary treat.
Your superhuman playing suggests that you have experience with other string instruments as well, though ... right?
@Simon DS: It's my honour and pleasure to be in the Song-a-Week group ... I still remember the day I was invited! It's an extremely helpful group, although I'm always late. I'm practising "The Hut on Staffin Island" at the moment.

It’s been 8 months of reasonably hard work on the Octave for me and though I could play the mandolin before that, I couldn’t actually record a single tune without making some sort of error. Taken a lot of self discipline to get there now.
But again I had about 16 (sloppy) years on guitar before that.
For your celebration you could take the wife up to the island and get the ferry boat to accidentally leave you there.
Just you, the wife and a mandolin?
-I once took a girlfriend to a beautiful desert island and three days later
she said, ‘ok, now what?’
People are different I guess.
My 10 year mandoversary kind of slid by unnoticed in the summer of 2018. Taking up mandolin at the age of 44 brought on a musical reawakening for me.
I started on violin at 10, then got into guitar and electric bass at 13. I also started bluegrass fiddle then. after graduating from high school I did very little with music for many years - just a little guitar playing at home maybe a few hours a week.
In 2001 we moved to our current neighborhood. My neighbor across the street played guitar also and we started picking together after a while.
One day he pulled out a "Franciscan" brand A5 style mando in need of new strings. All I knew was it was supposed to be tuned like a violin. I bought a set of strings, cleaned it up and restrung and tuned it. Using a Jim Dunlop .88 black nylon pick I started playing. All the BG fiddle tunes I learned as a youngster just started jumping out! It just grabbed me and wouldn't let go.
I returned the mando to my neighbor, and not knowing anything picked up a Chinese built Ibanez mando. I found there was a weekly acoustic jam which I started attending. Then I learned about the local Old Time Fiddler's club and started going there, and met Sonny Morris, and found mandolincafe, and became fully absorbed.
Now I have two custom built mandolins, mandola, octave mandolin, mandocello, resonator mando, banjolin and electric Mandobird VIII. I've played out in local bands and as a soloist and contributed on several albums. I'm much better on fiddle and guitar as well.
And it all really started accidentally.
