Pearl Nut - Low slots for G strings

I have a kentucky 1050 and the G string slots are lower than the rest of the slots. It drives me crazy but isnt an issue. I want to get it fixed though. I am considering just having a bone nut installed as it seems that most pearl nuts end up going to bone anyways. Or have them fill the 2 slots and see how long that lasts.

Are there ways to fill these slots and have it last? I know with bone the super glue/banking soda works but what about pearl?

Are the G strings above the first fret enough to not buzz? If so you can lower the rest , maybe they are too high and the G is where it should be.

I could lower the rest. That is an option.

If the other strings are higher and the G does not buzz the mandolin will play much nicer with the other strings lowered to where they should/could be.

Thats a clear option. I just see that people w pearl nuts move to bone, even on stuff like old Gibsons.

- Fill slots
- Cut other slots lower
- Replace with bone nut
- Replace with new pearl nut

If the G string slots aren't too low, it's a pretty operation to lower the other slots (and there would be no reason to make a new nut). If you press the strings down at the third fret, you should see the tiniest gap between the strings and the first fret.

Funny, I see just the opposite.

I had a slightly diff issue with the original pearl nut on my Gilchrist. The E string slot(s) deepened over time, resulting in a buzz. I mitigated it for a period of time by dropping into the slot(s) a small length of E string first, then stringing up. I finally had Skip install a bone nut. Problem solved.
