    Default NMD....Eastman MD305

Well, new to me anyway. Traded out a Morgan Monroe for this one. Like it so far. It was amazing how playing it last night it started to open up. The only drawback I have found is the lack of white binding on the neck causes me to have to pay more attention to fret markers as they seem to blend in, other than that, love it!

Congrats! Nice mandolin. At least it has side dots. Three of my vintage mandolins don't.

Nice, B381, thanks for posting the photos. I am really impressed by these Eastmans. Sure is pretty and I'll bet is plays and sounds as good as it looks! Congratulations on a great choice.

In my quest to downsize musical instruments in my advancing age, yesterday I traded 2 guitars for a new MD305 (down to 4 guitars, 3 mandos, and 2 concertinas). Anyway, I had played a few of these through the years and really wasn’t very impressed despite the great reviews here. Mine looks almost identical to the OPs, so no need to post photos. My mini review follows. Workmanship is impeccable. Tight grain on the top; no flame on any of the maple back, sides and neck. Playability is excellent. I bought from the local store which is primarily a guitar store (Sunday Guitars), they had only 3 mandolins, so I was impressed with the great set up-kudos to them. It probably needs new strings, but after trying various picks, pretty much got the tone I wanted. Chop is good; single note/double stops etc likewise pretty good. All and all very happy with it. It should serve me well for travel - I’ve a bunch of trips coming up.
    Thanks

Several mandolins of varying quality-any one of which deserves a better player than I am.......

If I felt the need for a cheaper mandolin to combat worrisome situations, I’d look no farther than the 300 series Eastman. Like as not they sound as good or better than their more expensive breatheren. Your 305 will serve you well.
