It would probably lend itself to the mandolin bass, at least it wouldn't be bowed

As a man who paid off his mortgage playing upright bass, I'm afraid that video will give me nightmares tonight.
Methinks that Mssr. Vuilluame might have had something extra in his wine when he conceived that thing. If he built 3 of them, he must have had a whole barrel of "Vin avec Champignons."

It sure did get my cats' attention, and they didn't know what to think of it. They may have thought the tablet was purring, I'm not sure. Normally they pay no attention to sounds coming from the tablet even though they like music played live, but this thing really caught their interest.

I forgot about that Mandolin Store sign. I'm not sure it's deep enough but close

Hans Zimmer actually recorded a bunch of samples of an Octobass in order to incorporate them into his compositions.
As a bass player though I have experimented with some low tunings before. I had one of my 6 strings strung up with a F0 for a while. It doesn't serve much practical purpose, but it's an interesting effect, something that's more felt than heard. Took a .200 string for it to have a decent tension and tone to it.
