Thread: Mandolin gift with no logo on head

Default Mandolin gift with no logo on head

Hey folks! I received this mandolin (happily) as a gift and I’m just curious about the brand. It sounds great, but I’m hoping someone could tell me just a little bit about it. Any thoughts?

    No stickers/labels inside?

Nothing inside that I can see. The head was damaged (cracked along one set of tuning pins, then repaired), so I suspect whoever did the repairs removed the logo in the repair process. I hoped the tailpiece would be sufficient to identify it.

For the life of me, I cant remember if that's "I" for Ibanez or "S" Suzuki

I think it is Suzuki, I had one a long time ago.

The stylised S is Suzuki. However, that does not mean it was retailed with that brand. I have seen Japanese mandolins with that Suzuki tailpiece that were models sold with Suzuki branding but were unbranded. As many Japanese instruments were made in a number of factories there are many mandolins that are the same with different brand names- or no name at all. From memory, I do not think this instrument type was sold as a Suzuki but I may be wrong. Suzuki branded instruments- and I have one- a Jethro Style two point did have labels inside.
