Who got a mandolin for Christmas?

Not quite a “mandolin,” but I got a mandola (my first mandola). I like it but I’m currently in the middle of a clawhammer banjo binge so everything else including the new mandola is getting inadequate attention.

Got a set of strings.
Was really naughty last year.
I was this close, but didn't pull the trigger on one. I managed to knock my mandolin off its perch at a gig Monday and it fell a meter onto a concrete deck. It looked like it survived, despite making a surprisingly loud sound. The cracks in the back seemed to be no worse than before, and I played out the gig. But when I got home I saw there was a new crack in the top. So I've retired it and gone back to my other one, which turns out to be (a) virtually free of cracks, and (b) other than having a floating nut and a few inches of slight back separation, in good playing condition. So I think I'll stick with this for now, despite feeling a few twinges of MAS, and will instead gift myself with some strings and a clip-on tuner. Within the twelve-day limits.
But that's just my opinion. I could be wrong. - Dennis Miller

I got a new knife, I think that means I have to go get some wood and start removing everything that isn’t a mandolin!

No mando here but I have many but a few months ago I put a down payment-and every now and then more $ as I wanted it payed for before it even gets built, on a build that hasn't started yet ! I think it'll start to get built in the late spring early summer and finished by fall of 2020? "excited as I've never had something built for me!" Out of all the spectacular builders I went with an Apitius F-5 Rosine with a wide grained bass side top and very fine grain treble side both in Adirondack, still on the fence with the back and sides but as hard fancy maple/maybe a birdseye if possible? Also on the fence with the original Apitius sound or his new LS voicing as he has nailed the "Lloyd Loar" sound! "Oliver has done a few LS voicings and nailed it!" I also like his Dark Cherry varnish finish, a smallish round neck. And still undecided on peg head inlay and I sure do love pearl block inlays in the board so that's a possibility?
I have a load of time to decide! I decided on one of his F-5's as all I've heard are killer! And It was like this with me, pull the name out of a hat of other builders I like/respect and admire so he won that contest-LoL! I'm sure it will be AWESOME! So the long wait is on and I don't mind as I've waited well over two years for my 58 F-5 to get fixed, well over a year for my attic find 1919 OO-18 and well over a year for my 1934 Joe Wilson to get fixed so I have extreme patience!
3rd day of Hanukkah I brought home the Eastman El Rey mandolin.

Early gift to self about a week ago, and it's a "project". That count?
I bought myself a new instrument last fall and so I am good to go. Spent significant time taking care of severely ill relative this Christmas season, so I had plenty of time to play it and a captive audience. In many ways one of the best Christmases ever.
No mandolin, but a 3/4 size 6 string Oscar Schmidt acoustic. Lovely piece.
I got a new fly rod..

Only a set of Wegen Bluegrass 1.0 picks. My first Wegens in probably a decade. Am giving them another try. They seem to pull some extra treble energy from my Kalamazoo. Haven't tried them on my other mandolins. But will by this weekend (band practice).
As to new mandolins, got three this year, so didn't need one right now.

More electrics than you can shake a stick at. I have to sell this stuff.
Long story short - last Thursday my son and I went to a guitar shop. He was mildly interested in looking for a new 12-string acoustic guitar and found a nice Guild F-2512E. He wasn't interested in buying it, but I had 3 years worth of gift cards in my pocket which covered all but about $100 of the cost - so I decide to snag it. When it came time to check out, he laid out the last $100 for me as a Christmas gift.

"I never did have no trouble with him until he got big enough to be round with bigger boys and off from home. Then he used to follow all these harp blowers, mandoleen (sic) and guitar players."
