Last night they celebrated Del's 80th birthday (which was in February!) at the Capitol Theater in Port Chester, NY. What a show. Del's band with special guests, Jerry Douglas, Dawg, Drew Emmit and Vince Herman (from Leftover Salmon) and Andy Falco (Stringdusters). First set was just Del band with Jerry Douglas joining for the last few tunes. Del and Dawg did the first half of the second set as a duo until Del's band returned to the stage in the middle of Long Journey Home. They then gradually brought out the rest of the guests. By the end everyone on stage just killing it. Having Dawg share Ronnie's break during Vincent Black Lightening was one of my favorite musical moments witnessed. Dawg was playing his Giacomel. Man did it sound sweet. Some fine mandos on stage between the Giacomel, Ronnie's Gil and Drew's Nugget. Del is amazing. 2 sets, second of which was an hour and half (longer with the encore). He was on stage the entire show. And he can still hit the high notes on Cold, Rain and Snow! What a night.
