Default Acadian Mandolin -- Louis Arsenault

Here are some Acadian (East Coast French-Canadian) musicians from New Brunswick, including Louis Arsenault doing a fine performance on mandolin. They're playing a medley, of which the first two tunes are very popular in Atlantic Canada. The Scottish tune "Big John MacNeil" (a.k.a. "John MacNeil's Reel") is one of the most popular fiddle tunes across Canada. Eddie Poirier is a popular fiddler in New Brunswick. Here's some information about Louis, who also plays bluegrass.

Robert Johnson's mother, describing blues musicians:
"I never did have no trouble with him until he got big enough to be round with bigger boys and off from home. Then he used to follow all these harp blowers, mandoleen (sic) and guitar players."

Here's another Acadian mandolin player, Ron Savoie from New Brunswick, performing "Red Haired Boy" (often called "The Little Beggarman" down east) with the Doiron Brothers. Savoie has played in numerous New Brunswick Bluegrass bands, so his style is highly influenced by BG. (Enter "Ron Savoie mandolin" into YouTube and you'll find a number of BG videos.)
