Default sad news, Arty McGlynn passed today...

Just seen this sad news. Arty was an excellent and pioneering guitarist for Irish trad although he played other genres.

Very sad news indeed. Such an exceptional musician. That instantly recognisable, very individual style.

    Bad news indeed. RIP

Arty (along with Alec Finn who died about the time the programme was first shown about a year ago) was one of the subjects of TG4's Se Mo Laoch series about legendary musicians. Perhaps they may show it again.

I saw it on my FB feed this morning. So sorry to hear this. It's a loss to the community in a big way.

A sad loss to guitar interpretation of Irish trad, but he had a long life, which is all any of us can ask for.

RIP. One of the greats. I had the pleasure of having him in my home for a day of recording a couple of years back. It's an experience I'll never forget.

There's dozens of great videos of Arty online, but these two are among my absolute favourites.

He also had a serious talent for a good story, as the second of Sean's videos demonstrates. RIP Arty
