I've searched the for info on what to use for f5 point protectors. Do I use a celluloid nut or what?

This seems unusual. Where did you search? Celluloid binding is the traditional method to protect the points on the F-5 body and can be found at suppliers such as Stewmac.

Please define more specifically what you mean by point protector. Do you want to protect the points on a finished mandolin? Is this about an unfinished build? Speaking from experience (See my post "A Pointless Repair"), if you aren't playing it, keep the mandolin in a case. I've had point damage from the instrument getting knocked off a Hercules stand and also from travelling with a case that didn't have much cushion at the point.
