    Default Dr. John Cockman interview

I know he's not most known as a mandolinist, but he is a very interesting person and has done a lot for the music community not only in his area, but also internationally (and his overseas influence is not just me). This interview is worth a read

I am lucky enough to live near John's family. They are all wonderful hardworking talented people. John's dad (also John) often comes to a local jam where I play every week. He sometimes brings one or more of his grandchildren who play wonderfully and challenge all of us old guys & gals to keep up with their tunes.
The whole family contributes in so many ways in the community and we are so lucky to be around them.

Thanks for interviewing musicians who deserve much more recognition than they get.

Enjoyed the interview Gunnar. First time I saw the Cockman Family they were just kids. Hard to believe John Jr. is 45. Always enjoy them when I have a chance to hear them.

Well done. Before picking up the mandolin, I started seeing a pattern. All of the best flatpickers also played the mandolin, even if casually so. Clarence White. Doc Watson. Norman Blake. Steve Kaufman. On and On. I haven't confirmed if Tony Rice did yet. But it was cool finding out through your interview that Sam Bush is perhaps an even better fiddle player than he is mandolin player.

    Thanks glad y'all liked it!
Archerscreek, go check out Sam Bush playing vamp in the middle on YouTube, it's great fiddling! True story: long time ago Sam Bush played a little mandolin for Bill Monroe, who then advised him to "stick to the fiddle, son".
