And from a few Maurers. It seems like the mid-line and fancier had these collars and the others none.

The peghead shape of the OP's inquiry has been used by other Chicago makers, and the purfling pattern and the stained hardwood fingerboard have been used by both Chicago and east coast makers.

This looks to be a well-built mandolin, but there is little, if anything, that resembles Larson work. There is a lot that resembles the work of others.

Scot, does your Stahl bowlback have a paper label? It is generally accepted that Stahls with paper labels are not Larson products.
Yes, my bowlback has a very florid, scripty label.

I wouldn't mind seeing some pictures of Scot's bowlback mandolin, including one of the label. And a couple of his Stahl flat-back also.

I also would like to see a clear picture of the purfling on Jim's Maurer, and one of the rosette.

i had a poor condition but playable larson mandolin as attested by hartman who wrote he book. it was ok but i sold it locally for what it cost me and the buyer turned around and posted it on the cafe a quite a mark up. don't know what he got for it. the top had been semi crushed and semi raised again. it had that half way ebony finger board binding. it sounded nice but not fantastic. not a very fancy model, but brazillian rosewood flat back so it had some umph.

Note scripty label in flatback; the bowlback also has the same scripty label. The binding shot is of the flatback and lacks an ebony strip.

The flat-back was not made by the Larsons.
Some shots of the bowl-back showing the purfling, rosette, peghead, and fingerboard inlays would be helpful.
