    Default Repertoire suggestions?

    Hi everyone.
I met a classical guitarist at a family gathering
and would like to work up music for next year.
We are amateur musicians - maybe "high intermediate"
describes our level :^) I'm especially looking for compositions
which have a folk music influence & interesting chord changes:
South American or Spanish, Italian, Tango, Choro, Gypsy,
Musette etc. Might together be called "cafe" music.
[O'Carolan, Baroque & Renaissance are also of great interest.]
It would be a plus if I could hear recorded examples of the sheet
music. Doesn't need to be mandolin music I guess.
Thanks - this is a new direction for me, and I appreciate
    any suggestions you may have.
    --Joel

Try some of the Raffaele Calace music for mandolin and guitar. There are many examples of his compositions on youtube and audio examples to listen to on other sites. His Album Ballabili (Op. 13) has 4 easy pieces. Les Maries (Op. 123), VI Mazurka (Op. 141) and Tarantella (Op. 18) all go over well too.

Thanks. Those are more basic than I'm looking for.
I'm working on Giovale's "Idilio Primavirile" A beautiful piece.

Check out Mel Bay books - 40% off today. I saw a few Brazilian and jazz type things as I was browsing earlier.

You can watch the Italian 'ballo liscio' thread, with lots of music for guitar and mandolin, and most importantly, beautiful music!

Bartok's Romanian Folk Dances. See, for example, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LgB0IHZdt2o

I have this Argentinian Tango and Folk Tunes for Violin. It comes with a CD of the tunes. I think there are some other world music books in that series, like Russian and Klezmer.

I have all the "white books" for choro. That repertoire is huge but those books are great.
