Thread: Unknown mandolin

    Default Unknown mandolin

I was gifted this mandolin from a family friend who collects mandolins. There’s no builder information or date of this mandolin. Was told it is a “player” mandolin. Doubt I’ll find any answers but thought I might as well try here.
    Thanks everybody!

It looks like something from Bruce Wei in Vietnam but there are probably other makers who bling up their instruments.

These were made in Vietnam and sold on eBay, primarily by sellers Antonio Tsai and Bruce Weiart and the other names associated with the same folks.

This one is mild as far as "bling" goes for some of the Ebay Vietnam mandolins I've seen.

If it's one of those Vietnamese instruments, be careful: some of them have inlays that fall out, metal parts that fail, and under-dried wood that can split. Apparently there's a "cottage industry" of independent craftspeople in Vietnam that build these on a collaborative basis, for international internet sales, mainly through Taiwan.
