Default searching for tech for Mandolin set-up

1st time posting on the Cafe. I'm looking for suggestions on where to bring my mandolin for a set-up. I live approx. 25 miles south of Boston, MA. I've had an Eastman 615 for about 5 years and it just needs a little attention- 12th fret not seated well on the bass side causing slight buzz. Other than that it could just use a string change and set up. Thanks

    Hey, pjjoy1:

Nice to have you on the Café. This is a great site full of mandolin addicts just like you. :-)

I don't know specifically what's going on in Boston, but I do know Phoenix Mandolins is in south Maine, if that's not too far, and that would be a great place to go. If that's too far, you could check out this resource:

I'm sure someone there would know where to go. My recommendation is make sure you go somewhere that knows mandolins. A lot of well-intention instrument repair artisans think they know mandolins because they know guitars and that type of thing. However, the skills are not always directly transferrable, and that could be problematic. For example, I recently spoke to a very good guitar repair fellow about some issues on my mandolin and he wanted to replane the fretboard to address a buzzing issue. Then, I contacted the manufacturer and they indicated that was definitely not necessary. They hooked me up with someone a bit more qualified.

I've had set up work done at Rick's Musical Instruments in Cumberland R.I.
A bit of a drive but worth it.
