Thread: New here, hello.

    Default New here, hello.

I do love mandolins and specifically mandolin music (baroque mostly). I'm a luthier and make guitars with the odd mandolin. This is one I am working on now (I only make my own design instruments), version 2 of #broadway. I would make more but there are only one or two players in this country of 57 million (South Africa). Most of my guitars are sold in the USA ….

Love a non-traditional design. That really looks like a complete re-thinking of mandolin form! Would love to hear a sound clip when it's done.

Cool. I've spent plenty of time in jozi, but I prefer Cape town (I learned to walk there as a baby) wish I could play it for the sound demo...

Hi Murray! I posted pics front and back of one of your finished Broadway mandolins last year, along with a YouTube sound clip. Can be seen at this post: https://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/t...ng-A-(-)-Model

You mean if I moved to South Africa, I’d be considered a good mandolin player? Tempting.

    Love the design.

Just found that post, thanks. I did answer there but here it is again. I do spend a lot of time on aesthetics but my first priority is ALWAYS sound quality (check out my guitars on youtube). There are 2 reasons for the brightness of that mandolin. The leg cutaway steals a lot of important real estate and the carved crease on the top makes it very stiff - although it is an acoustic, I had always had a pickup in mind. This new one may be less bright due to the top carve but the leg cutaway ….?
