I love Bling and this one is dazzling. The additional photos are just breathtaking.

If the purfling on the pick guard matched the rest of the mandolin it would be perfect. That is a pretty piece of lumber.

Wow, a true work of art. I’m constantly amazed that people can make such things. That mandolin costs more than the car I drive.

You can't pick 'Bluegrass Breakdown' on your car though, can you?

I have admired this mandolin a few times and never noticed the mismatched purfling. What a surprising oversight by the maker!

That surprised me too coming from that shop. I just acquired a Pava A5 with koa binding. She added koa binding to the pick guard as well and it really ties it altogether. When I first laid eyes on it I had an acute exacerbation of MAS. I truly doubt I will ever sell my Pava.

The purfling most likely matches. The difference is there isn’t any varnish on the pickguard.

An interesting comparison is the Collings Torch & Wire TME is also selling:

Both have almost too much bling!

Having played both, I would take the Collings home. Sweet sounding, plenty of volume and with a bit more presence.

When I asked Tom Ellis why he had white binding on the neck of one of his A5s when the body had ivoroid colour, he said he never stains the neck binding. He had his own reason which I can't remember but I think this mandolin also has the white line down the side of the fretboard, yet the same line around the headstock and body is not white. He must do this for a reason.

I could never buy that Ellis. I couldn't stand all the crying I'd do when the first ding happened.

I really like the abbreviated pickguard on the Collings. Both are exquisite to look at. I'm a little surprised the Collings is more expensive.
