Thread: Suggestions for Online posting of musical content for payment?

Default Suggestions for Online posting of musical content for payment?

I've not entertained the idea of posting original music online for pay until recently. Do folks here on the cafe have suggestions about this topic? Thanks for your input.

I guess I don’t quite understand your question, do you want to post original music and expect to be paid for it after it’s been posted? Or are you talking about a subscription to access your original music?

My apologies...it sounds a bit vain but i'm interested in the possibility of posting original music. I don't necessarily have any expectations but yeah, i guess getting paid would be ok. Thanks Timbofood...

    * i may be wrong about this but it appears to be the case that in order to post in the cafe audio/MP3 section the music needs to be available online for compensation.

Once it’s out there, it’s out there, payment after the fact is pretty doubtful. As for vanity? Who cares!
Start your own YouTube channel and try to get sponsors I guess.

Post your music on Bandcamp. People can listen and if they like it, they can buy it.

Do people pay you to perform live? Either solo or with a band? If people will not pay to hear you live you probably will not get a great response with your recordings either. The place to start is to get a following live. The recordings follow.

Thanks for the feedback/information. Jonathan, Bandcamp sounds like a good idea. Don G mentioned that as well. I will look into it.

Do you mean to Spotify and iTunes and Google play and such?
    If so, checkout https://www.routenote.com/
Free to upload to those services. Payout from them is super low though, unless you get in the 10s of thousands of plays.
    You can monetize soundCloud too.

I think getting paid for anything is probably the saddest part of performing music, for everyone. Today and yesterday. pro and amatuer. A piece of music could be listened to infinitely even if paid for once, which it seldom is. We are all do it, it's unavoidable with You-Tube and all the other options out there today. I myself over the years have "invested" thousands of dollars and untold time on my music with no returns, other than the love and feeling of accomplishment whenever picking up an instrument. I wish someone could come up with some way musicians could be properly compensated for their time and effort. Because while we do play for ourselves, most have the goal of entertaining and in that help others relax for a minute. So ya that's the way I feel about that.

You can make a million dollars playing mandolin.

Well, you have to start with two million but...

Patreon is a good idea. Some folks give lessons but I have a friend who basically puts it up for people who want to support his work as a musician. He does have some extras up there but it's kind of like being a patron of the arts. He's very good and has a unique niche. I think he gets around $200 a month.

Thanks for the comments folks. I'm not worried about the "make money" part. I've played for "tens of dollars" for years The true wealth has come in the exchange of way to much coffee and muffins...so...i'm good on the compensation part. Just hoping, "maybe" of being able to place a project on the cafe MP3 library at some point
    Good ideas from all, thanks.

    Hey, Old Growth!
Are you Dennis Benjamin and is Longfellow's Swing yours? If so, thanks! Nice tune and playing! Should be acceptable, by any standards, in the cafe library!
