Is this mando discussed somewhere else already?

Looks like a pretty one.
Very cool, indeed, but, since Marty liked playing his carved up 700 dollar mandolin better, I think I'll pass

"Heck, Jimmy Martin don't even believe in Santy Claus!"
If I remember, Marty had this way back in the late 80's and sold it later to raise money to buy his "collection" of Country "stuff" to put into his new 30 million dollar museum in MS. Marty has owned several other Gibsons over the years but does prefer his early 70's Chris Warner Loar Knock-off the best. I helped him out many years ago when he was needing some cash for "stuff" and bought his hand picked Charlie Derrington signed MM. Hard telling how many "celebrity owned" mandolins he does have and likely will be on display at the new museum. I know he has some killer guitars.
I think David Harvey had this one 10 years or so ago? Does this still have the Virzi or was it ripped out? Curious as most from that batch are Ferns? Nice Loar, I also really like the Bob Mavian Loar Carters has! Now that one has a bit of soul to her from what I could tell from the demo video anyway, and listening to some old tapes of the Case bros. I wouldn't mind having that one!
I'd love to see Marty's museum as I've heard he has some great stuff and the macabre like Patsy Cline's death boots, Clarence White cloths etc.. Well Tom's museum is also a sometime must see also, really sweet stuff! Have to love the rare, oddball, and just plain neat things in this crazy Bluegrass/Country music life.
I checked the website for it. congressofcountrymusic.org It is a rather ambitious project, taking up an entire city block in Philadelphia, Mississippi with displays, performing, recording, and teaching facilities. No surprise he is still accepting donations at all levels. You can donate a cathedral style stained glass window for a $250K donation, for example. NFI.
I would imagine you have to sell a lot of t-shirts, ball caps, and CD's to keep a museum open, even if it is a tax write-off for somebody....
The Osmond Brothers at the height of their popularity and TV fame, built their own state-of-the-art television studio in Orem, Utah so they wouldn't have to fly to LA every week. Millions were spent at 1977 prices. Last pictures I saw it had been vacant for decades.........
And, that's the Osmond Brothers, so............
I admire Marty's passion against seemingly impossible odds........
There's a reason people open theaters in Branson..............there is an endless supply of retired folks who have money to spend and like certain types of music, IMHO.
Nothing "hip" about it. Just getting the "numbers" to pass through the doors each night.
Marty has the "hip" covered, he will get the 20-30 European tourists who pass through Philadelphia, Mississippi each month.......it is the other 10,000 people I worry about....
I wish him well! Marty works very hard to keep his vision going, I hope it becomes the biggest thing in the state of Mississippi!

The other day I heard on Mississippi Public Broadcasting that the beer concession at a recent Ole Miss game sold 15,000 beers at $8 each.....that's $120K in one day!
Maybe Marty could sell beer......
I have more and more respect for MS as time goes on.
The fills he plays on this duet with Del of "What Would You Give (In Exchange For Your Soul) echoing Monroe's original recording, give me chills.
But Amsterdam was always good for grieving
And London never fails to leave me blue
And Paris never was my kinda town
So I walked around with the Ft. Worth Blues
Out of respect, I refrained from mentioning the state flower was the satellite dish..........
And no mention of double-wide manufactured homes, either.....
Actually, I live in Mississippi, so the concept of a $30 million dollar facility -- of any kind -- let alone a museum, really warrants a double-take, at the bare minimum, IMHO.
When the casinos first appeared 30 years ago, they were located in the poorest county in the poorest state. On top of that, they were able to charge $10 "entrance" admission!!!! And, nobody batted an eye, they just gladly paid it for the opportunity to throw their money away......(those of us who had been to Vegas or Atlantic City knew better, but they had a captive, bored, largely rural audience to prey upon.) Heck, they would even cash your paycheck for FREE!
Like I say, ambitious......
I have often joked, that if you can somehow figure out how to make $50K a year in Mississippi -- you are a one-percenter! (but easier said than done with prevailing wages...)
Ok enough about the foosball, lets talk Loar a bit more, who has played this one? Or the Mavian, Case bros. Loar? I'd love for Carters to do a demo side by side of both as Marty's did have a Virzi-probably still does and the other one doesn't have one. We need or should I say I'd like to hear them side by side to get a somewhat judge on both but still nothing like a self comparison for tone and overall power and voice! They did that recently with a Loar F-5 and a Loar H-5 that was really special. For many this is the only way to hear the difference in old Loars and such? Both look very nice and sound on the Mavian that Guthrie Trapp demoed was outstanding in tone!
I hope you weren't referring to Arkansas about the state flower and double-wide trailers. If so, you should do some research on Arkansas and the people and businesses that are here before you start running it down. If you were referring to Mississippi I know it is very proud to have someone like you living there.
Trying to inject some humor, that's all. Sorry, if I offended you. Sometimes our forum gets "tunnel vision" when discussing the finer aspects and details of instruments and their pedigree, IMHO.
Anyway, I like Arkansas and have spent a lot of time there. aka The birthplace of Johnny Cash!

I didn't play it but I did hold it and gave it a sniff a few weeks ago. It's in great shape. I was a little nervous just holding it.
Out of tune and out of time.
Man "HappyPickin" not even striking a chord or some noodling around! I'd love to go to Carters right now as they have what 5 Loars and the first Unsigned, some other interesting ones like that Victorian etc. Yes all them oldies smell great!
