I have one coming from Fiddler’s Green tomorrow (if tracking is correct) and they strung it with EJ 74s. If I hate them on it I’ll chime back in. If you don’t hear from me assume I like them on it and am too busy picking to post

I’m curious to experiment with strings on this one and may even try some flat wounds at some point. But, I do like J74s and j75s, so we’ll see...

I used to use J-74s (before they were EJ74's) on the A+ deluxe I had many years ago.

Also pretty much stuck with the J-74 and their follow-on for all my acoustics. The Rigel certainly seems to like them.

Rigel, for a time anyway, strung everything with John Pearse strings, but I don't know the gauge. 74s will work just fine.

Back in the day I used to make trips to Brattleboro, VT - to the now closed Maple Leaf Music where they always had Rigel mandolins on hand. If they weren't J-74 they were certainly the same gauge.

    Exclamation Re: string choice

Nickel wound , or Monel wound won't corrode and dull as fast as bronze wound..

I was one who could never really tell a difference when going from one brand of phosphor bronze or 80/20 bronze strings to another. J74, coated, earth tone, straight up, pretty much all sounded the same. Then on my last string change I tried DR Rare strings. Much better volume, they really pop. Great tone and response from the low open G all the way into nose bleed territory on the upper frets. I really love them on my TJ Cricketfiddle cedar-topped F5. I'll probably try more strings in the future, but for now the DR Rare are the best I've tried in a little over 10 years playing mandolin.

I have used many brands of strings but I keep going back to GHS A270's on my A5 and F5 Ellis but I prefer Curt Mangan Bluegrass series on my Girouard oval. Not a fan of Monel strings .
My two favorite pastimes are drinking wine and playing the mandolin but most of my friends would rather hear me drink wine! Adapted from quote by Mark Twain------supposedly !

When I had a Rigel I used Sam Bush Monel strings to give it a little bit more of a bluegrass sound, but I suppose that depends on what you’re playing with it

I only got a few minutes with my new to me CT 110 over lunch today, but the EJ 74s sound pretty darn good on it. I may try some monels or flat wounds later, but these are new so will stick with them for a few weeks...

I vote for the ones you put on that you like the best. The only recommendation I could make is use mandolin strings. The sound you're looking for, playability, cost, etc., are criteria I would consider, not what someone else says about the way their mandolin sounds.

just played a larger room, maybe 40 by 40 with high ceiling , when I was walking around doing a sound check, the rigel really filled the room , without the amp, opened my eyes or ears as it were to a good mando.

I do not miss mine (A+deluxe). Ultimately it did not have just the sound I wanted. I'm much happier with the Collings sound.
