Default My New Picking Porch (limited mando content).

You may or may not remember that last year my wife surprised me with a weekend trip to Nashville as a thank you for completing 17 years of renovations on our house... details here if you're interested: https://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/t...wife+nashville

As I'm sure most of you would have guessed, that ended up not being the end-all be-all of renovations to the house... So for the last several months I've been adding a roof and screening in a deck that I added on to the house about 6 years ago. Long story-short, I just finished the last interior details over the weekend and we furnished it yesterday and I am dubbing it the "Picking Porch".

Its an absolutely wonderful spot to sit and play music and enjoy the indoor/outdoor feel with a cup of coffee... or to just sit and watch Netflix... with coffee. I put tongue and groove on the ceiling, which I think contributes to it sounding really nice out here.

So for any of you who have reached out for an armrest and gotten a slow response, this is why. ... Still a little more paint to finish up on the outside, but its 99% done.

    Hey Spencer,

Looks good, nice job. I am sure you will love it. I have a similar porch on the back of my house and spend lots of time out there, me and the cats, picking away (me, not the cats. . .they only listen).

I am curious about your ceiling. How thick and what wood (pine, I am guessing) T and G did you use? Was it much more costly than other alternatives? I am thinking of re-doing my porch (built the house over 30 years ago and the porch not too long after). T and G on the ceiling might be a good option for me, too.

    Best wishes,

    Bob

Thanks Bob, the T&G is just the standard issue nominal 1x6 (3/4" x 5 1/2") V-groove stuff you can find at any big box home improvement place.

Looks awesome! We had a pine tongue and groove ceiling on our last house’s porch that sounded really good as well. Love the time roof!
