    Default Most Mandocellos at CMSA

Most mandocellos EVER?? Well, there were 25 of us in a 140 piece orchestra!
The Solo Mandocello Worlshop was a success thanks to the contributing composers: August Watters who has published (online) his Progressive Melodies for Mandocello and John Goodin who was there to present his Winter Suite for Mandocello. The Fabulous Fabio Giudice was on hand to demonstrate and discuss Raphael Calace's music for liuto cantabile as well as leading and inspiring the huge mandocello section. There was even a mandocello ensemble--"The Low-lifes"--performing at the open mic, organized by Dede Hurson and led by Jim Trepasso. We are all looking forward to San Diego next year; let's keep those low C strings humming!

I'll never forget being in the middle of that many mandocellos! Here is a picture of one of the sectionals from my stand:

I'm sorry we didn't get to meet at CMSA. I was volunteering at the table most of the time. It was GLORIOUS to hear all the cellos at the En Masse Concert! And I loved Fabio's performances; he was so approachable, too. Thank you!

Thanks a lot, Phil -- sound like fun was had!

Quick question: I see that you're playing a Freshwater mandocello. If I remember right, when they were still being made David's website advertised them as intended for FCGD tuning, i.e. one full step below the OM. The only online video I can find has it in DAEB (link). Do you tune it in standard 'cello CGDA? How does it take to the low C?

I bought it here on The Cafe, and it came tuned CGDA and I never questioned it. I’ve replaced the strings with standard mandocello strings a few times. It plays just fine!

So cool! Very jealous I couldn't be there. Any chance of y'all coming to the Southeast in the future?

We probably talked at some point, I was at the table a few times, but too busy to check out name tags. I wonder if you heard the Cello ensemble (Low-Lifes) or the Aria? Glad you were there anyway.

NO! Did anyone record it? IF it ends up on the CMSA site, I'll see it eventually...I need to reup my dues. But alas, not for awhile due to finances; that's why I wasn't attending. But it was GREAT meeting and hearing Fabio playing liuto.
