Default Any Baritone guitar players here?

Not sure where to post this but this was the closest match. I played a couple Taylor baritones yesterday at Elderly. Dang, I really liked them! I’ve never actually played a bari before. I think the first I heard one was Buddy Miller playing one with Robert Plant. Anyway, these were $2100 each so I won’t be getting one anytime soon, but I can see myself going down this rabbit hole. I told my wife I played them, and she gave me that look......”I said I played one, not bought one”......

I have only played an electric baritone once, but I loved it and totally want an acoustic one. I believe Alvarez makes a decent quality one for about $500 which might go over slightly better with your wife?

I was introduced to baritones by Paul Chandler at a NAMM show. I had just bought a Danelectro double-neck and Allparts had a Danelectro baritone neck they sold me at the end of the show. I turned my 12/6 double into a 12/baritone just by swapping the necks. Tons of fun plus I can string the baritone as a bass VI with gives me even more options!

I'm a baritone guitar geek - I have two of them. One is a very nice Paul Reed Smith SE 277 semi-hollow in vintage sunburst - nice axe. That one's tuned B to B. The other is kind of a Frankenbaritone made from an acoustic bass guitar - some dude out west converts acoustic bass guitars to baritone guitars. That one is tuned A to A and it's a freakin' beast. I don't play them much because it's hard to find music, with other musicians, where they fit in. But as my two instruments are mandolin and bass (upright and electric), and I have a couple of mandolas and an octave, the baritones just fit into my efforts to cover the entire sonic scale. When I finally get a mandocello I think the collection will be complete. Unless there's like a piccolo mandolin or something out there.

I have a Walden Baritone that is a good sounding instrument. It definitely inspires me to play some things outside my normal box. I think the Taylors sound really nice online but i've never had a chance to play one. One thing mine doesn't do well is tune down to A - A. If it did I would use it in our uke club, it would be a nice addition since it would be like an octave 6 string uke. Not sure if different strings would help that or not.

I like them for fingerstyle mainly, so prefer acoustic. It would also be totally cool to have a bluegrass band with a baritone guitar, mandola, viola, gold tone missing link banjo, and a normal bass. I think that'd be sweet, and it would allow me to sing tenor without hurting myself.....

Pretty sure both of the Taylors I played were tuned A-A. That big low string was a little floppy, but I think I would get used to it.

Edit: Nope, Taylor Baritone guitars are all tuned B-B according to their website.

The Ibanez baritone sounds intriguing. I might have to go shopping.

Gold Tone makes a reasonably affordable baritone guitar. I’ve tried it in stores and it seems fine but I’m not really a baritone guy.

I have a Schecter Celloblaster 5 string and an old Ernie Ball Earthwood acoustic guitar converted to a 5 string - both tuned Bb F C G D - i love them both - great for accompaniment...

Update: I ended up getting an Alvarez A/E baritone with LR Baggs electronics. With discount at GC it was a little over $400. For the $$ I’m very happy with it and it came set up nicely from the factory. Included was a hand-written note from the guitar tech with instructions on tuning and wishing me good luck with it. It is a jumbo body size and the low B string really resonates in there. I really enjoy playing it, even though it’s a little harder on my fingers due to the heavier gage strings. I haven’t played it in a jam yet but probably will this week.

Steve, did you get an ABT610e or an ABT60e? I've been looking at these things but the website says the ABT60e is out of stock until December.
