Thread: Where to put strap peg on the back of my mandolin?

Default Where to put strap peg on the back of my mandolin?

Hi, I have an A style mandolin (Kentucky KM906). Up until now, I've been attaching the strap to the headstock, just between the tuning pegs and the last fret (actually I've attached it right behind the last fret, just under the strings). I have been alerted to the fact that this is probably the wrong place to put this, as it doesn't balance perfectly there.

I have been told that it is best to attach a peg to the back of the body of the mandolin for this strap.

Can you please advise where to attach this peg to? Photos are totally welcome!

    Thanks!

Keep it where it is. There is no need to add a peg.

Strap buttons are OK, it's your mandolin but some folks find they are in the way. There is a third option, take a look at this thread. You can wrap it around the body.

It should have been "elevated fingerboard" It's been up there for 12 years wrong. I fixed it, thank you for seeing that.

The best solution to this vexing problem is to buy an F style.

I have a peg mounted to the underside of the neck, right next to the heel. Works great for my A style.

Same. Just like a guitar. Not in the way, no worries.

    Question Done Much Woodworking before?

the body block the neck is glued into is substantial enough..

I saw a tool stew mac sold ... is the same wood screw size,

but, its slotted length ways , to act like a tap so cuts the threads into the wood
to let button center screw go in without risk of splitting the wood.
