Default Five String Electric Octave Mandolin Project

Hi Folks, I recently finished up building a hollow body 5 string electric octave mandolin and thought it worthwhile to share with the cafe! Top is sitka with a maple neck and maple back and sides. I came up against a time crunch and had to rush to finish it in time for a gig so ended up doing a quick and dirty 4 coats of shellac for finish and stained the whole thing one color. I'll probably spend a little more time on fit and finish on the next build, but as it's the second instrument I've made all I can really ask for is that it plays in tune and won't pull itself apart... so far so good

I did not do a good job documenting the build process and ended with with some rather random pics of the mando at different stages, but anywho here they are:

Pretty impressive to do a multi-scale as your second build! I like the design. Kinda "SG meets mandolin" thing.

Thanks Marty! The first emando was 19" scale and the bottom strings felt a little floppy and the top sounded a little thin. Its still a playable instrument but I was curious to see if doing a multi scale would make a noticeable difference. I went with 19.5" to 18.75" and the extra half inch definitely helped with the bottom strings, I'd probably go down to 18.5" for the top strings if I were to another fanned fret layout. Doesn't really sound all that different between 18.75" and 19" to my ears.

    Looks awesome!
    Mandolin: Kentucky KM150
Other instruments: way too many, and yet, not nearly enough.
