Thread: Completed First Build

    Default Completed First Build

Finished my first mandolin build a little less than a week ago. Have been playing my fingers off since.

This started as an IV A-style kit. I ended up re-working almost every aspect of the kit. I used medium Stew-mac frets, and celluloid tortoise binding. I added an ebony headstock overlay in which I inlaid my name in MOP. Rubner tuners and a Cumberland Acoustic bridge help keep it in tune and ensure good tone.

Finished it with aniline dyes and Mohawk Nitro lacquer.

I love playing it as it sounds stronger/louder and more vibrant than anything I own or that I've played lately.

Hope you like the photos. (Cannot understand the portrait orientation, they're right side up on my computer...)

I like the look. Looks like a keeper that will serve you well for many years, unless you get MAS and build another!

Building a mandolin is quite an accomplishment. Seeing it through to the end is satisfying.

Looks great! I love that burst. Very nice work.

Whenever I want to use photos I took on my phone in portrait orientation on a forum or WordPress, I always open them in a Preview program first on my computer and then I just save them. I don't know why, but there is almost always something screwy with the orientation of photos direct from the phone.

Most impressive, and the tortoise shell type binding looks great on that body!
