Exclamation Choro das 3 - stolen instruments, mics, and tour gear

Very sad news. Last week, while Choro das 3 was traveling from Barcelona to their next gig in France, someone broke the glass in their van and stole many, if not most, of their instruments and mics, plus cameras and computers they use to create the beautiful videos and live stream sessions they share with us. A despicable crime and an assault on every one of us who love choro.

While the thieves failed to get away with Elisa's bandolim and Lia's guitar, as you can see below they stole many, if not most, of their instruments and mics - plus cameras and computers they use to create the beautiful videos and live stream sessions they share with us.

A GoFundMe campaign to help them recover has been created here:
    https://www.gofundme.com/f/choro-das...cp+share-sheet

The loss is estimated at $30K, including:
2 Canon XA10 camcorders with two XLR inputs
    1 shotgun microphone
    64 and 32GB memory cards
    External hard drives
    1 Sony mirrorless camera
    2 GoPro hero 3+
Vivitar 360º camera and Sony QSC-QX10 camera
4 LED lamps Youngnou 300 Air
1 MacBook Pro Retina 13 ”and MacBook Air 13”
    Shure SM 58
    Sennheiser e601 and sennheiser e604
    Wooden flute Mollenhauer
Silver flute Artley, the Wilkins Model
Piccolo of wood - Yamaha Y62
    Flute in sunshine - Artley
    Wood clarinet - Martin Freres
    Hammond 44-key melodica
Sony ECM 77b lavalier microphones, AKG C411 microphones and AKG C418 microphone
    Boose Bluetooth headset
    2 Gope customized pandeiros
    Sheet music
    Miscellaneous Tripods, Adapters, Chargers

These may turn up locally in an auction or shop, or may surface in online sales. Please support the recovery effort by forwarding this information to people living near Barcelona, Spain and other parts of Europe, to people who may browse instrument sales online, and to all other concerned people in the arts community.

I don't know how to forward this post but it should also be on the main 'General Mandolin Discussion' page as well as the front page of the MC web site. Everyone possible should be made aware of this so any hope of retrieving their merchandise as well as the 'go fund me' account us maximized.

Hi Billy - thanks, you are right that this information should be disseminated widely. This list is excerpted from a Spanish online news article (input from Corina). It's out there in places. Here, on Scott's excellent advice, I submitted a classified ad in the "Lost and Stolen" category, https://www.mandolincafe.com/ads/144920. The ad just points to the GoFundMe listed above, as I think it's the main way to help - the chances of retrieving gear without more specific identifying info is probably limited to the group's check-ins with local shops where the thieves may have pawned or sold them, which they're doing as they pass back through the area en route to their next engagement in Portugal.

This is indeed a devastating blow as their livelihood depends upon having quality instruments and mics, and the means to share their footage with fans around the world. How many of us really woke up to Choro das 3 through the expertly shot and edited video clips by Lia that we saw on YouTube? The flutes can never be exactly replaced, as Corina grew to know, love, and completely master their specific idiosyncracies; but they can be replaced. Same with Eduardo's pandeiros - he had tuned and weighted and generally made them extensions of his thinking. Elisa's clarinet, the source of that amazingly unique sound she gets, and her professional 44-key melodica were callously stolen too. But the best way to help them (unless perhaps you are living around Barcelona and frequent the local music stores) is to help them purchase good quality instruments and gear as soon as possible.
