    Default Classic Grisman

This is one of my favorite Grisman solos. Every note lands perfectly and his timing is just incredible. I guess that's what makes these guys pros!

Thanks, I didn't include the time stamp because I think the break is way better within the context of the whole song. Alison Krauss' solo isn't too bad either!

I love Dawg’s take on “hardcore” bluegrass. Songs like this and albums like Home Is Where The Heart Is, Bluegrass Reunion...awesome stuff. For my money it’s the perfect, if there is such a thing, mix of Ol’ Bill’s power & rough edges and modern technique: double stops, position playing licks and just enough, but not an endless string of, 16th notes...plus that special magic of Dawg. Tasty brew.
There are three kinds of people: those of us that are good at math and those that are not.

Dude! I've not been a Dawg fan, but that was awesome! I also loved Tony's solo, it was great

Dawg was just up in Albany playing a free outdoor show with Samson Grisman on Bass and Danny Barnes on Guitar and Banjo and Vocals ( Sam sung one and Dawg was doing harmonies on a couple tunes). I don't have a good count but that has to be about the 12th time I've seen him live, never gets old for me.
He was playing a blonde Giacomel, sounded great to me!

"walking around in a cloud of smog, thinks he can play just like the Dawg"

Sierra Hull opened up with a set including electric guitar saxophone and "Mad World" on electric mandolin, Kitchen Dwellers filled in the middle, great show all around.

This solo is very much like his solo on the original Old & In the Way recording of the classic "Knockin' On Your Door". Certainly a good, varied solo, but nothing compared to a lot of his Bobbly Osborne inspired work on the amazing album "Things In Life" by Don Stover which was released on Rounder Records in the early 1970's. Check out his solo on "Lonesome Pine Breakdown" or "White Oak Breakdown" to see hear Dawg doing Bobby O on a mix of LSD and steroids! Given that David has one of the greatest and most expressive tremolos of all time you should also do some homework and try to learn, not for note, his gorgeous solo on "White Dove" which can also be found on that original OAITW recording. With David there's just too much great recorded work to comprehend...

Oh yes... then there's his incomparable rhythm playing...

As soon as I heard that solo, it made me think of this mandolin solo from "Thinking Tonight of my Blue Eyes" (11:46 - solo):

I for years thought the "Blue Eyes" solo was Wakefield (which would also make sense in relating to Grisman's similar solo in the original post), but I'm almost positive it's Ronnie Reno - as the back band on the record is Reno & Smiley and The Tennessee Cut-Ups (1963). Can anyone confirm?
