Thread: broken case handle

    Default broken case handle

i broke a case handle on a bouzouki case. old one. a first generation calton light case waaay back. so any suggestions for a quick fix.

i was thinking i could tie some strong fibre around the broken handle end then through the old metal loop it used to attach to then rewrap around the handle end. any suggestions what material for the fibre and how to get it super tight? maybe drill a couple of holes in the leather handle and loop it through. i was think some kind of strong metal wire..but i am open to suggestions.

Replacement handles are mostly buckle onto metal rings, or screw/rivet into the wood. Here's the buckle type https://www.elderly.com/products/case-handle

    and the "sausage-style" https://www.elderly.com/products/cas...th-metal-rings

Unless you are heavily into repairing case handles, wouldn’t you be better simply fitting a new one? I’m sure Keith Calton will have fitted a standard off-the-peg handle (with pop rivets) and, if it’s anything like my ‘76 Calton guitar case, a match should be relatively easy to find now that we have this internet thingy. I hesitate to help further ‘cos I don’t know whre you’re located.

You should be able to get a replacement handle from Calton in Austin. If you're in Canada Michael McLeod will have some https://www.acousticguitar.net/
eod. A dremel tool & a little work & your case will be good as new
