Default Schertler DYN-V on a cello?

Maybe some of you know the original Schertler line well enough to answer this ...

I have an old-school Schertler DYN-V, the violin pickup from their original line. I've never used it on a violin, but I have a cellist acquaintance who needs a pickup. Would it be worth trying on a cello?

    Hey there, mrmando:

My understanding is the Schertler DYN pickups are interchangeable, at least the guitar and mandolin versions are. It's possible there could be a functional or mechanical difference between the pickups, but my hunch is you can go for it. I'll add, I recently bought and have been using the Schertler Yellow preamp, and it is an absolutely game changer. I alredy really liked the DYN-M pickup for my mandolin, but the preamp gave it a serious level up. The tone is stronger, more even across the strings, less tubby, and there's a feedback control.

The DYN pickups are great as is, but Yellow preamp enhanced the tone, so I'm sure that would be a solution for you cellist friend. It's pricey though.

I have a DYN-V, and use it on Mandolin, Mandocello and Mandobass. It works well on all 3 (one at a time, obviously).
