    Default Temperance..... Jig!?!?

In a fit of boredom the other day, I created this monster it's the air of temperance reel modified to be a jig. My tone in this video isn't where it needs to be, so I'm working on it

Great playing, Gunnar. There are a lot of jigs and reels that can be adapted as you have done, and a change of tempo gives a freshness to a well-known tune. Your picking and right-hand fingering is really good in this video.

Well done, Gunnar, and compliant with tradition - there are existing pairs of reels and jigs that work this way, e.g. Leitrim Fancy and Round the World for Sport.

Thanks Bertram! I think it could also be called the drunkard's reel, but maybe that's my messed up sense of humor....? I've heard of a guy named Tommy Peoples who composes tunes as different meters and plays them as a set. It's fun

Yes, but Tommy Peoples is no longer with us. You'll have to pick up the baton.

Nice tune - and great playing!! Your tone in general is fine - I think you were probably a little nervous because you knew you were being recorded

Thanks! I'm probably being slightly over-critical but there's a few muted notes second time through that could be because. I've mostly gotten over camera fright when recording myself, but it might have been a factor. I'm usually not too nervous when playing for others live, it's when they start filming that I mess up and also, I've noticed if you start out with a slightly dissatisfied description people expect less and then are more likely to be pleasantly surprised.....

You were playing pretty fast - one thing that could improve clarity would be to slow down just a bit. I know I have to rein myself in sometimes with fiddle tunes - my brain wants me to play really fast, but I don't like when I pick sloppily so I have to slow down. My gold standard (that I have yet to meet) is the crystal clear tone of John Reishman.

Yes, slowing down would help, but on video I play quickly to shorten the video so it uploads quicker. And I don't have a metronome except for Google, and the internet is down a lot. Anyway, good luck achieving John Reishman's tone. Of course, if you aim for that, you'll get higher than someone looking for Bill Monroe tone.... (is that sacrilege here?)
