Second shout for Paddy Cleere in Kilkenny, lovely guy making great instruments. Love his mandolins and while I don't play bouzouki, any sessions I played in where someone has one of his they sound great. He used to play a Friday evening session with Anthony McCauley in Bollards Bar and last time I was there he let me try his bouzouki. http://www.cleereinstruments.ie/

That's so funny, was just thinking about this thread. I called around to Frank Tate's with an instrument and tried one of his bouzoukis for the first time. Mahogany top, back and sides. A fantastic instrument. Wonder what the OP went for, if anything at all.

I'm late to this thread but theres a few more makers worth considering. Ultan Walsh from Cork makes some really beautiful bouzoukis. Brian Lofthouse based in Mayo make a really good selection also. Foley of course!! I played Macdaras personal bouzouki a few weeks ago, really nice. If you want to go slightly further afield, my old pal Andy Tobin from UK makes magnificent bouzoukis ( I just bought one from him). The other alternative is the used market. You see some nice zouks here for sale on the Cafe but another resource is the Irish Bouzouki Forum which is a Facebook grouping. very informative site and instruments come up for sale pretty regularly.
