    Default Flatiron N1 vs K2

What would you see, other than wood, as the significant differences between these two mandolins? sound, etc. . . .

I would expect the 1N to be a bit brighter due to the maple back, the 2K to be a bit warmer because of the koa, and the latter to be a higher (2) trim level aesthetically with binding.

which one has the 5-latch case? Which one is without adjustable truss rod? Pheff, is spot on. Just a couple of items I'd consider if interested in buying either.

I'm sure the koa is priced higher. It's actually what I'd buy (I have a 1N). (I gravitate towards the pre-Gibson ones and the truss rod cover is a Gibson thing.)

Thanks Fatt-dad. It seems I have caught the "pancake bug". I have gone through the "LARGE" file on the Flatiron pancakes and enjoyed it all. I have the 1N and its case is a square one with only two latches, but instruments fits well and snug inside with plenty of storage. The 2K is on its way to me and the seller said it had the original case, but I haven't seen it and there were no pictures.
I know it has been said before but , "the little pancake Flatirons amaze me!! the sound, the playing and the sound the sound! I have two very good arch tops (Weber and Collings) but I really love the sound and feel of the pancake Flatirons. Saying that amazes me too. Thanks, J.C. Bryant

I think variety is a very good thing. Flatties aren't too damaging to the bank account either. The 1N I played was a memorable instrument I probably should have bought.
