Earlier this week I caught the end of what I assume was a bit of a preview of the Ken Burns documentary on country music that is set to air on September 15th. At the end they brought out everyone that had played to do "Will the circle be unbroken". At first glance I thought Ricky was playing Monroe's mandolin then I got a closer look at it. Sorry about the picture quality I just took a picture of the screen.

Yes! That was one of a couple delightful moments on the PBS kickoff concert for the upcoming Ken Burns documentary season. A reproduction of Mon's mandolin for sure. Also, Marty Stuart took on a solo Orange Blossom Special that I thought was great. Favorite moment: Vince Gill handling Dolly's biggest hit. He has a long history with that song, but what a performance!
I heard Marty Stuart doing that great imitation of a fiddle on Orange Blossom Spcl. Never heard anybody make a mandolin sound more like a fiddle.
Also noticed the initals scratched into his Loar's top. One particularly large set of initials looked like J R C,which I reckon was put there
by The Man in Black,Johnny Cash. Looks like an overly tatooed Loar.
Marty plays a early Chris Warner F-5 "Gibson copy", he did have a Loar maybe more than one? There is one Loar that was his that's for sale somewhere but I can't remember where? Also the story on his copy was that JRCash put the first initials on it as I believe somewhere it was said John said "its too pretty"-something along those lines anyway. I think Marty was upset but took it with a grain as he was what 15-16 at the time right and just went with it and ended up getting many of the greats to carve their name or initials in it. That's about all I know except it sounds even better in person.
Also I do believe that Ricky may of made/did the work on some of that "Big Mon" from one of his MM's, but not 100% positive, I'm sure I could find out for certain Monday.
This is about all I know, someone has to know more. It will be in the HOF someday-Marty's F-5!
