    Hard times equals better music.
Being right is overrated. Doing right is what matters.

Steve at Acoustic Music Works in Pittsburgh told me this story: Right after the big stock correction at the beginning of the Great Recession, guy comes in and buys a reallly expensive guitar. He says, "I was saving all my money, and then the stock crash wiped it all out. I should have just bought the damn guitar!" As an economist, I just love this story

That does seem to be the case. It's a nice silver lining, but we all still get soaking wet in the rain before we see it. I think we can appreciate what we have from the hard times that came before, and appreciate the good times we have now.

No, but then I wasn't considering a purchase either. I haven't changed my spending habits as a result of an economic forecast. Weathermen and women get their forecasts correct more frequently than financial prognosticators.

I'm an economics junkie, read a lot of classics econ books, attended the local Federal Reserve events. As others have said recessions are an inevitable part of our economic system and certain fundamentals point to one in near future. The one additional point I'd like to make is that, even in the absence of those predictors, recessions can occur as self-fulfilling prophecies because people act based on what they think is about to happen. Last poll I saw said that 60% of Americans are expecting one so all we need is some time or a precipitating event for the prophecy to come to fruition.
    You are correct !
My two favorite pastimes are drinking wine and playing the mandolin but most of my friends would rather hear me drink wine! Adapted from quote by Mark Twain------supposedly !
