Thread: Re-homing my tenors

    Default Re-homing my tenors

I’ve decided to concentrate on 6 string guitar and ukulele. Fifths tuning is understandable, but it’s not ingrained in my DNA. I’ve made tentative deals to re-home a Republic Hwy 49 tenor and a 1930’s National tenor.
I still have a deep affection for my 1920’s Martin 2-18. It may end up in Chicago tuning.

I can understand that. I have made progress on tenor, but there is some sort of mental block in my head most likely due to years of guitar that wont allow me to make the final leap to ease of playing. I believe if i just played tenor, perhaps with lessons that are impossible to find near me, i could make that leap. However, I dont have as many tenors as you do. I have a blue ridge and a electric Eastwood. Which for now i will keep. I can relate to the DNA reference. I am not the guitar master by any means, but even if i have a dry period of not playing, its all still there. Fingers might take a few tries to get up to speed, but i retain it. If i dont play the tenor a while, i have to stop and think about what i am doing. Curse those 6 string monsters!
    Its not a backwards guitar.

I'm a fan of Chicago tuning. There I said it.

But I can play Chicago tuning on a six string, just ignore the bottom two. The 2-18T Martin has a unique voice so that is it's saving grace.

I know the concept well but on the six string I feel compelled to play the lower two

Many many years ago, actually many decades ago during the folk music scare of the late 50's/early 60's I started out on tenor guitar with Chicago tuning only I didn't know there was any other tuning at the time.

Now it’s time to re-home my mandolins

Both mandolins have sold. I forgot that I have a tenor banjo or unknown vintage. I'll post an ad on it tomorrow.

I'm giving serious consideration to re-homing my early Martin 2-18 Tenor. I have to check the serial number but I know it is from 1927-29. I have no idea how to establish the value of the instrument.

No doubt one of the moderators will be along at some point. But any sale posts are supposed to be in the classifieds. You will get a better response there anyway.
